Addiction is a complex condition characterized by compulsive engagement in a behavior or consumption of a substance despite harmful consequences. It can affect the brain’s reward system, leading to cravings and a loss of control over the behavior.
Addiction can manifest in various forms, such as substance use (e.g. drugs, alcohol, tobacco) or behavioral addictions (e.g. gambling, gaming, internet use).
Overcoming addiction is often a long-term process, and ongoing support helps individuals stay motivated and build healthier habits to maintain sobriety and well-being.
