Correctional Landscape and Rehabilitation Approaches

Singapore After-Care Association

About this course

Persons engaged in offender rehabilitation work (e.g. helping professionals, volunteers, corrections officers) play a significant role in the ecosystem of support that facilitates offenders and ex-offenders’ rehabilitation and reintegration into society. Regardless of the different forms of support given, these groups of personnel play a part in helping offenders and ex-offenders gain confidence, develop prosocial identities and learn the skills to overcome obstacles as they desist from crime/drugs and reintegrate into society. It is therefore important to understand Singapore’s correctional landscape and acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders and ex-offenders.

This course provides an overview of the criminal justice system as well as the relevant government and community agencies that work with offenders and ex-offenders. It also introduces evidence-based practices and underlying theories and models that support Singapore’s rehabilitation approaches. Upon completing the course, you will be prepared to take the first step toward working with offenders and ex-offenders on their change journey.
