Teaching Protective Behaviours to Young Children

PAVE

About this course

Teaching Protective Behaviours to Young Children The number of child abuse and neglect cases reported to and investigated by Child Protective Services (CPS) in Singapore has risen since 2020. Given the increasing numbers of child sexual abuse cases in Singapore, PAVE Integrated Services Ltd, a Protection Specialist Centre, recognizes the important role that professionals, educators and protective caregivers play in teaching children about Protective Behaviours.

Protective Behaviours is an effective prevention and early intervention programme in promoting child safety. It is a personal safety programme that teaches children skills and strategies to identify and respond to a range of unsafe situations. Learning simple strategies about keeping safe helps children build confidence, resilience and empowers them to be safe in various situations.

In this course, protective adults will learn how to teach children ages 4 to 9 years old the 6 Protective Behaviours topics - being safe and feeling safe, emotional literacy, early warning signs, body safety, personal space and consent, and network and persistence. The purpose of this course is therefore to equip adults who interact with children, with the resources to teach Protective Behaviours.
