Bridging Social Services and Education through Technology at SUSS UniLEARN Forum 2024

Held on 16 July 2024 at the Paradox Singapore Merchant Court Hotel, the third SUSS UniLEARN Forum united community partners and social service organisations. The full-day event saw a line-up of eight internal and external esteemed speakers who shared their insights and enriching e-learning experiences with SUSS UniLEARN.

The sessions focused on key issues within Singapore’s social service sector, including an intriguing discussion on how generative AI is reshaping the e-learning landscape. Participants gained a deeper understanding of how UniLEARN is weaving the latest technology into their course development strategies. Additionally, four partners shared case studies highlighting how online courses co-developed with SUSS UniLEARN benefited learners from all walks of life.

SUSS Deputy Provost, Associate Professor Allan Chia, welcomed forum participants, emphasising gratitude for collaborative efforts. He highlighted the impact of AI across industries, including education, and reaffirmed SUSS’s commitment to leveraging technology for social good. UniLEARN exemplifies this mission, integrating e-learning expertise to nurture socially conscious leaders who ethically harness technology for humanity’s benefit.

Associate Professor Ang Seng Bin, Chairman of Allkin Singapore and Guest-of-Honor at the Forum, highlighted how the 6Cs (Collaborate, Co-Create, Copy, Calibrate, Creativity, and ChatGPT) can elevate e-learning to new heights when integrated. He advocated for social sector partners to co-produce and collaborate on courses. He concluded by emphasising that AI integration will transform individualised learning and that mixed reality is vital for delivering immersive motor skills training.

The SUSS UniLEARN Forum was filled with anticipation and excitement, as noted by the Director of Online Learning, Associate Professor Gabriel Gervais, who stated: “I always look forward to our bi-annual SUSS UniLEARN Forum as it gives our speakers and guests from the social good space an opportunity to meet and network as well as share their e-learning experience and learn from one another. This year in particular, many shared that they walked away inspired by how Ai is creating new training possibilities and they also added how excited they were after realising that SUSS UniLEARN is ready and keen to collaborate with them to realise these possibilities”.
