About this course

Do you often feel helpless, not knowing what to do or how to handle the needs of people with Parkinson’s disease (PD)? Are you at a loss as to where to find information regarding the condition and resources that can better equip you with the knowledge in your care journey?

Knowing more about Parkinson’s disease provides a convenient and accessible means to educate, train and support caregivers of people with PD to better equip you to take care of your loved ones. We hope to help build a connection between caregivers within community such that they have a support network which they can rely on through the discussion forum within this course.

What you will learn

  • Explain what is PD, the progression and treatment strategies
  • Identify the common motor and non-motor symptoms of PD
  • Describe the various types of motor fluctuations of PD and apply strategies to manage them
  • Utilise general and specific strategies to overcome common difficulties faced by people with PD
  • Identify nutritional-related issues and recall dietary principles for people with advanced PD
  • Identify and manage swallowing changes in PD
  • Describe the tube feeding options and apply the correct steps to administer feeding
  • Describe the complications of pressure injuries and methods to prevent them
  • Apply the correct steps to maintain urine catheter
